Ten-year review
Like all museums in France, the Musée de la Loire must carry out the collection every ten years. For each object kept in the collections – more than 2,200 at the Musée de la Loire – it is then necessary to check from the inventory registers:

– the presence of the object and its location
– its technical information (dimensions, materials, etc.)
– its state of conservation
– its inventory number and marking.

Each work is marked with its inventory number on a discreet part of the object (under the base, on the reverse, on the base, etc ...)

What is a collections site?
For its first survey, the Musée de la Loire has set up a collections site that makes it possible to take advantage of the manipulation of all the works during the survey to improve their conservation and documentation. Thus, each work that passes into the hands of the museum agents is:

recorded on the computerized inventory which also serves as a documentary
base – stored in a packaging adapted to its materials
– possibly restored.

At the same time, the reserves are being redeveloped.

All these operations, initially essential to the conservation of the works, will lead to a better knowledge of the museum's collections, which will then be able to renew more regularly the hanging of its permanent collections and propose new exhibitions. As the survey progresses, the museum also puts its collections online on the Mona Lisa base, managed by the Ministry of Culture. The collections of the Musée de la Loire are thus accessible to a wider public and are also better known to other heritage institutions, thus guaranteeing the museum's influence.
